Bahraich wolf attacks: Yogi Adityanath meets victims’ families, promises action

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday conducted an aerial survey of the Bahraich region, where a series of wolf attacks on humans have been reported in recent days. He also met with the families of those who died in the attacks and interacted with the public.
The Chief Minister assured the residents of Mahsi tehsil that the forest department, district administration, and police will continue working until the wolf threat is eliminated.
Speaking to reporters after the meetings, Adityanath said that public safety is the government’s top priority.
“The government has classified human-wildlife conflict as a disaster. In the event of a loss of life, immediate compensation of Rs 5 lakh is provided to the victim’s family. Anti-rabies treatment is also available for those injured in wild animal attacks,” he said.
According to the Chief Minister, 25 teams comprising 165 forest department personnel have been deployed for the safety of the people. Four thermal drones have been installed for surveillance.
“The first priority is to rescue the wolf. However, if its violent activities increase or it threatens human life, orders have also been issued to shoot it. This is a last resort; before that, we are working on other options,” he said.
Adityanath noted that while the situation has normalised, continued vigilance is necessary. He also called for better coordination between public representatives, the administration, and the forest department.
At least eight people have lost their lives in the last two months within a 20-25 km radius in the Bahraich district, and five wolves have been successfully captured so far, though one remains elusive.
Additionally, Adityanath reviewed the flood situation in the Bahraich district and enquired about the relief efforts.
